INKstudio is pleased to congratulate artist Wang Shaoqiang on receiving the Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award at the 16th Curitiba International Biennial of Contemporary Art.
As the largest and most influential contemporary art event in South America, the 16th Curitiba International Biennial was held from June 14 to November 15 in Curitiba, Brazil. Under the theme "LIMIARES / THRESHOLDS," the Biennial was co-curated by Argentine art critic and curator Adriana Almada and Brazilian art historian and international curator Tereza de Arruda. It brought together over 300 artists from 38 countries across five continents, with exhibitions and activities taking place at the Oscar Niemeyer Museum (MON) as well as numerous cultural institutions, public spaces, and urban systems throughout Curitiba.
Since its inception in 1993, the Curitiba Biennial has consistently fostered dialogue between Brazil, Latin America, and the global contemporary art scene. This year's theme, "Thresholds," does not merely refer to borders or 临界 points, but rather to a state of transition, generation, and redefinition. In today's world, the boundaries between human and technology, nature and the artificial, physical reality and digital space, and local experience and global mobility are becoming increasingly fluid. Against this backdrop, the Biennial seeks to use art as a means to rethink how humanity perceives itself, understands the world, and confronts the future.
