Peng Kanglong — Beguiling the Eye, Now on View at the Guangdong Museum of Art

From the late 1980s to the present, Peng’s artistic career has earned him wide recognition across East Asia. A graduate of the Department of Ink Painting at Taipei National University of the Arts, Peng received rigorous classical training, particularly in the monumental landscapes of the Northern Song, the meticulous brushwork of the Wu School, and the literati lineage of Dong Qichang. Integrating this foundation with personal reflection and philosophical inquiry, he has devoted himself to the creation of landscapes, bird-and-flower paintings, and their synthesis. His style—serene yet profound, technically intricate yet emotionally charged—embodies the continuing transformation of ink painting within a modern vocabulary. As The New York Times noted, “The lush scenes that result feel like contemporary rejoinders to an ancient conversation.”
