MEETING THEIR MATES
Dream: 26 May, 1986

Two black and white spotted cats look alike. Both have the same little red
flowers on their heads. They have come to meet their mates.

Xueqin says it's the last chance to see the spring sea. I wait till she has
disappeared from view before I start to go. I can't walk quickly on the gravel
beneath my feet.

I borrow two art catalogues from a girl. One is a book of images of cats made
by a sculptor and the other is book of cat sculptures in relief.

My little brother stands in the middle of the room. He has spread white pills
from the medicine bottle all over the table. I told him: remember, do not
touch the things on my table. I am mopping the red floor. A cat sits on the
wet floor staring off into space.
