EXHIBITION | TAO AIMIN IN "NATURALLY WOMEN," EXPO MILANO 2015

Tao Aimin will participate in “Naturally Women,” an exhibition of works by five contemporary Chinese artists to take place in October 2015 at the KIP International School Pavilion at the 2015 World Expo in Milan. This Sino-Italian project is curated by Alice Cazzaniga and promoted by the Italian Embassy in China, the Confucius Institute at the University of Milan, KIP International School Pavilion at Expo Milano, and Ever-Art Beijing Ltd.

On April 24, the press conference and preview of “Naturally Woman” was held at the Spazio Italia In Beijing. There Tao Aimin created her first installation-performance work, Ova.

Ova was inspired by Tao Aimin’s dream. When she was pregnant and looking forward to childbirth, she dreamt of a basket full of cracked chicken eggs, which she took as an inauspicious omen. Indeed, her pregnancy ended prematurely. In the performance, Tao Aimin symbolized her experience with chicken eggs and copied the diary she kept during her pregnancy on them, writing one character on each egg. For her, eggs are not only the primordial symbols of human life, but also symbolize all living things in the world, whether vegetal or animal. In the performance, she conveyed her desire and hope for life and released the repressed emotions from her pregnancy.
